হুমায়ূন আহমেদ - একা একা (Eka Eka by Humayun Ahmed) রাতদুপুরে দুম দুম করে দরজায় কিল পড়তে লাগল। সাংঘাতিক কিছু একটা হয়েছে নিশ্চয়ই। আগুন-টাগুন লেগেছে কিংবা চোর এসেছে। চোর হবার সম্ভাবনাই বেশি। খুব চুরি হচ্ছে চারদিকে। আমরা দুজনের কেউই ঘুমাই নি। ঘর অন্ধকার করে বসে আছি। বাবু ভাই তার শেষ সিগারেটটি ধরিয়েছে। সিগারেট হাতে থাকলে সে কোনো কথাবার্তা বলে না। কাজেই আমি গম্ভীর গলায় বললাম, কে? দরজা খোল। বড় চাচার গলা। ধরা যেতে পারে সাংঘাতিক কিছু হয় নি। এ বাড়িতে বড় চাচার কো নো অস্তিত্ব নেই। কাজকর্ম কিছু করেন না। সে জন্যই তুচ্ছ ব্যাপার নিয়ে হৈচৈ করে বাড়ি মাথায় তোলেন। একবার রাত তিনটায় এমন চেঁচামেচি শুরু করলেন যে পাহারাদার পুলিশ আমাদের গেটের কাছে বাঁশি বাজাতে লাগল। আমি এবং বাবু ভাই দুজনে ছুটে গিয়ে দেখি ছো ট চাচির পো ষা বিড়াল তার ঘরে ঢুকে বিছানার উপর বমি করছে। বড় চাচার সে-কী চিৎকার। যেন ভয়ঙ্কর একটা কিছু হয়েছে। আজ রাতেও নিশ্চয়ই সে-রকম কিছু হবে। হয়তো চাচির বিড়াল তাঁর ঘরে গিয়ে কুকীর্তি করে এসেছে। আর এই নিয়ে ঘুমুবার সময়টায় তিনি লাফঝাপ শুরু করেছেন। আমি বিরক্ত স্বরে বললাম, ক...

He was enrolled in a Ph.D. program at UCLA when he decided to pursue his childhood dream of acting and performing comedy. After September 11, President George Bush made a speech about America’s enemies - Iran, Iraq and North Korea - in which he referred to them as the “Axis of Evil.” At first, that name worried Iranian-American comedian Maz Jobrani. But then he decided to do what he always does: laugh about it. He and some friends even started the Axis of Evil Comedy Tour, which featured comedians of Middle Eastern descent like Ahmed Ahmed, Dean Obeidallah, Aron Kader and others. হুমায়ূন আহমেদ -  নবিজী,   লীলাবতীর মৃত্যু (Nabiji, Lilabotir Mrittu by Humayun Ahmed) তখন মধ্যাহ্ন।         আকাশে গনগনে সূর্য। পায়ের নিচের বালি তেতে আছে। ঘাসের তৈরি ভারী স্যান্ডেল ভেদ করে উত্তাপ পায়ে লাগছে। তাঁবুর ভেতর থেকে বের হওয়ার জন্যে সময়টা ভালো না। আউজ তাঁবু থেকে বের হয়েছে। তাকে অস্থির লাগছে। তার ডান হাতে চারটা খেজুর। সে খেজুর হাতবদল করছে। কখনো ডান হাতে কখনো বাম হাতে।         আউজ মনের অস্থিরতা কমানোর জন্যে দেবতা হাবলকে স্মরণ করল। হাবল কাবা শরিফে রাখা এক দেবতা — যার চেহারা মানুষের মতো। একটা হাত ভেঙে গিয়েছিল বলে কা ' বা ঘরের রক্ষক কোরেশরা সেই হাত সোনা দিয়ে বানিয়ে দিয়েছে। দেবতা হাবলের কথা মনে হলেই সোনার তৈরি হাত চোখে চকমক করে।         দেবতা হাবলকে স্মরণ করায় তার লাভ হলো। মনের অস্থিরতা কিছুটা কমল। সে ডাকল, শামা শামা। তাঁবুর ভেতর থেকে শামা বের হয়ে এল। শামা আউজের একমাত্র কন্যা। বয়স ছয়। তার মুখ গোলাকার। চুল তামাটে। মেয়েটি তার বাবাকে অ...
